We are pleased to begin the 15th Year of the Merrimack Valley Student Athlete Program, sponsored by Moynihan Lumber, in conjunction with The Eagle Tribune. Since its inception the program has sought to recognize youngsters who have made a considerable effort to maintain outstanding grades and also reach high levels of athletic accomplishment.

The Merrimack Valley Student-Athlete Program highlights student achievements in athletics and academics.  The students must have a "B" or better average and excel in a sport. Student-Athletes of the Month and their Schools receive plaques to commemorate their achievements and are highlighted in The Eagle Tribune. Student-Athletes of the Year receive plaques and a $1,000 scholarship at a luncheon held in their honor in June.

Perhaps the best way to appreciate what the program means is to read the list of previous recipients of Student Athlete of the Year from 2003 to 2014.

All during the school year, The Eagle Tribune Sports Writer will be selecting the Merrimack Valley Male & Female Student  Athletes of the Month.
To be selected, a student must:
       1. Play a varsity sport at a local public or private high school.
       2. Be nominated by his/her Coach, Athletic Director or Principal to one of the
Sports Editors of the above named papers.
       3. Have a “B” average or better in all subjects.
       4. Have excelled on the athletic field in the month he/she is nominated.

Nomination Process

The nomination process is simple:  Fill out the nomination form and submit it or print out the nomination sheet  and email it to Mike Muldoon at

Your participation is vital to the continuation of the Merrimack Valley Student Athlete Program. We encourage athletic directors and coaches to nominate their deserving Student-Athletes. Thank you for your past support of this program and for your future nominations.
